Lower HicksnittleLower Hicksnittle: The most isolated village in the most isolated of the Eleven Kingdoms, Lower Hicksnittle is a tiny settlement nestled on the northern fringes of the backward Kingdom of Darnk like a tick on the scruff of a mangy dog's neck. The inhabitants are subsistence farmers. Turnips are the main crop.
The village consists of about a dozen hovels arranged around a muddy central square. The Festering Wart Tavern, which serves as a combination tavern and town hall, squats on the east side of the square.
Hicksnittlers plod thickly through life, habitually considering anything beyond the edges of their rocky turnip fields to be unimportant. They know little of events elsewhere in the Eleven Kingdoms and care less.
Hicksnittlers favor drab, ill-fitting garments woven of mudflax and cottonweed. Hair is typically worn cropped short. The villagers bathe irregularly, if at all.
Travelers from the south are rare. Travelers from the north are non-existant. North of Lower Hicksnittle is a scrubby forest beyond which are endless leagues of empty wasteland. In the far, far northern distance, like a smudge on the horizon is the black wall of a distant, unexplored mountain range.
Lower Hicksnittle has also been described as a "loose thread at the frayed edge of civilization." The next nearest settlement is Whiteswab, located three days ride south along a narrow, twisting, overgrown trail thick with thorns, brush, and brambles and swarming with flies swarmed and stinging gnats.
Birthplace of Jason Cosmo.
